Movement as Medicine for the Nervous System

Many of us only move our bodies in a way that CONTROLS them for a specific effect. What if you redefined your relationship with movement and made it less about improving your body/appearance, and more about developing mechanisms that allow your nervous system to calm?

Your body needs movement to complete stress cycles. When stress builds without release, it gets stored as tension, fatigue, or overwhelm. Movement doesn’t have to be intense; it simply needs to be honest to what your body feels.

Try:

  • Shaking out your limbs

  • Gentle twisting

  • Walking at a natural pace

  • Stretching your arms overhead

  • Rolling your shoulders

The goal is not exercise—it’s expression. Movement gives your nervous system a safe outlet, helping your body shift from survival mode into a more grounded state.

For those of you who practice yoga, what if you brought this intention to your next asana practice? The idea of soothing from the inside out, staying with your body in each pose and completing the poses as you NEED to, not as you are told to or think you should.
