The Power of Co-Regulation

Humans are wired for connection. We regulate best in the presence of calm, attuned others—people whose nervous systems say, “You’re safe here.” Even as adults, we depend on this.

One of the reasons why I love in-person sessions with clients and teaching group workshops is because we get to regulate our nervous systems together in real time. You can feel the collective shift happening. I love creating the container for that kind of safety and support.

If you’re feeling like you need help regulating, or having been isolating for a while, try co-regulation.

Co-regulation can look like:

  • Sitting with someone who feels grounding

  • Listening to a steady voice

  • Holding a pet

  • Leaning on supportive community or ritual

If self-regulation feels hard, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong. It’s because regulation was never meant to be a solo project. You were designed to regulate in relationship.
